Glazing Pottery: Materials Needed

Glazing pottery is a one of the most exciting process to making pottery! The glazing process involves applying a layer of liquid glaze to a fired piece of pottery, then firing it again to create a smooth, glossy, and often colorful surface. This step can get very creative. Different glazes are fired differently so be careful on what you decide to layer over each other. Learn about firing different glazes here.

Materials needed:

  1. Glaze; find cone 6 glazes here

  2. Brush, sponge, or dipping bucket

  3. Gloves

  4. Water container (small table bucket will do)

  5. Wax resist (optional, for specific designs or to keep glaze from sticking to certain areas. Remember, avoid glazes touching the kiln and other pots you will be firing)

  6. Kiln
