My Clay Process

My obsession with my mug collection began back in college. I was surrounded by talented artists with many opportunities to grow my collection. I’ve been hooked ever since. How did I get started?

  1. Look for local classes in your area. I would start by finding a ceramic studio nearby that offer different level classes and begin with Level 1 or a beginner class.

  2. Take a beginner class that will teach you the fundamental techniques. These skills include, centering the clay, pulling walls and basic hand skills to make various sizes of mugs and bowls.

  3. Learn about the different properties of clay and firing temperatures.

  4. Learn different glazing techniques and firing instructions, I recommend learning through classes taught at your local studio by teachers who have experience with firing Kilns and a variety of glazes.

  5. If you’re still hooked! Look into a membership for studio time to utilize equipment provided or consider buying your own equipment!
